Congratulations to EDO's Drylands focus group for their recent successes towards advancing drought characterization in the southwestern United States. Two grants, one NASA SMAP and one UA AIR grant, have been awarded for the application of remote sensing techniques in determining the impacts of drought on ecosystem function. The group also has an upcoming paper, " Five decades of observed daily precipitation reveal longer and more variable drought events across much of the western United States", that will be published in an upcoming issue of Geophysical Research Letters (GRL). These accomplishments will pave the way for EDO to become a leader within this area of research in the future.
