NASA EVC-1 Selection Awards $3M to EDO Researchers
EDO’s Xiquan Dong and Baike Xi, in the department of hydrology and atmospheric sciences, were recently granted $3M from NASA as part of the NASA Earth Venture Continuity-1 (EVC-1) Libera award, an overall $150M, 10-year project led by the University of Colorado Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics. Libera, named for the daughter of Ceres, is a new instrument that will continue and improve upon the 40-year Earth radiation budget (ERB) observational data provided by NASA’s CERES (Clouds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System) instruments. The UA team will help provide continuity to the ERB climate data record, estimate meridional energy transport, and investigate the feedback mechanisms of Arctic clouds and radiation on Arctic sea-ice changes. The new instrument is expected to be launched in 2027.
